Why You Need a Holistic Approach to Menopause

During perimenopause and menopause it can feel like sailing through uncharted waters. One moment you're cruising smoothly, and the next, you're caught in a storm of symptoms that are confusing and you cannot work out what is happening to you?

While there's no shortage of advice and guides out there, many fall short of addressing the complexities of this life-changing experience. That's where a holistic approach comes in, offering not just symptom relief but a pathway to emotional and spiritual well-being.

“When I first stepped into perimenopause, I was already dealing with a high-stress lifestyle and a period of instability in my personal life. To say I felt like I was losing my grip on reality would be an understatement. Here I was, having navigated my menstrual cycles with relative ease all my life, suddenly feeling like an emotionally turbulent teenager again. Only this time, the stakes felt higher. I had a full time job, 2 young children and many other people who relied on me.

For many women, the realisation that they've been in peri menopause often comes as an afterthought, usually when their periods come to a halt. It's only when the emotional rollercoaster levels out that they look back and recognize that fluctuating between feeling like two different people every two weeks was far from normal.

My emotional balance took a nosedive during a particularly challenging chapter of my life. To add fuel to the fire, I had my Mirena coil removed, which seemed to set off a hormonal tsunami. It dawned on me that for the majority of my adult years, I had been either pregnant, breastfeeding, or on birth control, which had masked the true nature of my monthly cycles.

Then it hit me like a truck. I was physically drained, emotionally spent, and mentally foggy. I knew I had to take action. So, I went against the grain of my professional background in healthcare and returned to school to learn how to heal myself. When I discovered a holistic approach that resonated deeply with me, focusing on the mind, body, and soul, I knew I couldn't keep this newfound wisdom to myself. I had to share it with others. This time of change, is also an opportunity for growth. It is all about how we frame it and learn to know our cycles and the natural ebb and flow of a woman’s story”

The Limitations of Conventional Menopause Guides

Traditional menopause guides often focus solely on the physical symptoms. They offer a one-size-fits-all solution, usually centred around hormone replacement therapy or over-the-counter supplements. While these can be effective for some, they often neglect the emotional and spiritual dimensions of this transformative period in a woman's life. Menopause is not just a series of symptoms to be managed; it's a journey that affects your mind, body, and soul.
